I Love It When This Happens

I keep a small notebook where I record inspiring quotations, poetry and short passages from books. It is easily one of my most prized possessions and where I regularly turn to for inspiration, wisdom, comfort and enlightenment.

I rarely search for quotations. I find it so much more authentic when meaningful words find me. It's fascinating to read back through the notebook and be able to get a sense of what was important or influential to me at certain times in my life. (For example, during the months surrounding my college graduation a few years ago, there were lots of quotations about teaching and new beginnings).

I just added these two by Po Bronson. I didn't even know who Po Bronson was when I read them, but they moved me--tremendously--so he's a cool dude as far as I'm concerned (and once I researched him, I realized I did know him, or at least I've heard of his books).

"I'd rather help than watch. I'd rather have a heart than a mind. I'd rather expose too much than too little. I'd rather say hello to strangers than be afraid of them. I would rather know all this about myself than have more money than I need. I'd rather have something to love than a way to impress you."

"I used to want to change the world. Now I'm open to letting it change me.

I cannot even begin to explain how relative the aforementioned quotations are to where I am in life right now. I love it when this happens.

  1. Amazing. I especially adore the second one.

  2. Oh, I adore these quotes! I'm so glad I found your blog as these were just the words I needed to hear (ahem...read!).

  3. Love these quotes! "I'd rather have something to love than a way to impress you" is absolutely brilliant. I want it framed!

  4. Lean: Me too, it keeps dancing around in my head as a nice reminder to just "be"

Meg: glad to hear that! Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment :)

    Em: Do it! :)

  5. Love the second quote. Wow.

Your thoughts always bring a smile to my face. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave them.
