The White Dress

My sister bought me this book from the National Portrait Gallery in London last year. I've been poring over it recently (for obvious reasons), as it provides a fascinating (and gorgeous!) look at the history and tradition of the wedding dress.

320 pages worth of couture fashion inspiration.

It's hard for me to resist anything having to do with classic, old Hollywood glamour, and The White Dress offers an abundance. Plus, it looks really pretty on the coffee table.

  1. o la la! I don't think I'll ever get tired of looking at images of wedding dresses...

  2. My sis and I were just talking about that short, sweet period of time in the forties when a couple would suddenly decide to marry. She'd just put on her best dress or her prettiest suit--blue, yellow, pink, anything--and he'd wear his uniform. They'd grab their best friends and head to the courthouse. I have family pics in this style, and I think it's just so sweet.

  3. Looks like the kind of history book I would love to read/swoon over.

  4. What a gorgeous book, and such a timely gift! Audrey's Sabrina gown always makes my heart beat faster. Is Gigi's white dress with the black feathers at the shoulders there? My mother actually recreated it as a wedding gown for a dear friend and I've always been smitten with it, too!

  5. I love the National Portrait Gallery. It's full of such beautiful art, and its cafe is pretty great too!

That book looks amazing. Perfect gift for a bride-to-be!

  6. Your sister had the right idea -- gifting this book to a newly engaged girl is so thoughtful! Happy perusing! :)

Your thoughts always bring a smile to my face. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave them.
