Scenes From The Weekend

I learned a lesson this weekend, and that is: I am no longer 21 and will absolutely pay for it if I choose to act that way. Half a decade past that age simply means...Ouch. We had a hellava time at our friends' engagement party, but I knew going to bed promised a state of hungover awfulness. Sure enough, as if on cue with the rising sun, I found myself inwardly moaning and gambling with some higher power (tell me you've done this?): "If you make the nausea go away, I swear I'll volunteer/donate to charity/be a better human being!"

Anyway, Sunday was spent hiding and recovering, save for a midday outing to the farmer's market and grocery store. Other highlights included bagels & coffee to kick off a very hot Saturday and avoiding the internet for nearly 48 hours.

How was your weekend?

  1. Oh my god, yes. Yes, I know that feeling.

If it makes you feel better, yesterday I got accidentally drunk near Trevi Fountain after ordering 1/4 liter of wine...and not wanting to waste, I drank it all. Then after finishing it, I tried to get on my merry way only to find that I couldn't quite walk straight on the cobbled streets. So, I sobered up while eating gelato, which didn't help much....and I wound up stumbling the entire 1 mile walk home. Obviously I took a nap once I got home...and then awoke with that same "DEAR GOD." feeling you had.

This all occured before noon. Not a proud moment. But seriously, why can't we recover like we did just a few years ago? We're still young, dang it! :)

Anyway, love your photos. And hope you're feeling better.

    1. Hahaha, that's hilarious. I'm glad you actually found your way back to the hotel! This whole "lightweight at 26" thing makes me seriously question whether or not I'll collapse on the table after one glass of wine at 35?!

    2. Haha! I think the only solution to our problem is to drink more...more often. Eh? ;)

  2. It was our Sunday that got me. Too hot to do much of anything!

Despite a night out you paid for, your weekend sounds alright. I have a question thiugh, why are all of your pictures always so perfect? Seriously! They are of beautiful things, the light and exposure is just right.

    I love it!

    1. You're sweet, Victoria! Honestly, learning how to shoot and develop my photographic style took time and patience and lots and lots of practice. I'm still learning! I always shoot manual, which forces me to adjust no matter what the lighting conditions. Light is one of my biggest inspirations for sure. I'm also a bit of perfectionist, so when I want a particular shot, I figure out how to get it.

  3. The last time I for really wasted was a Halloween 3 years ago, when I drank several shots of a drink called Cyclon, which happened to be a mix of tequila and rum. I know, I know, it sounds disgusting already, but it was actually ok tasting. Then our host set her oven on fire because she left her oven mits inside, so Cyclon and a combination of fire extinguisher powder mix did it for me. I don't know how I didn't throw up in the cab but I remember bargaining with myself to never ever drink like that anymore. One of the many similar conversations I've had in the past:) Next day was terrible... and yes, the bargain has worked so far. No more excesses! I'm passed 30 now and my body hates me.

PS Love the radishes. I eat them by the handful like snacks...

    1. I think we've all had a few experiences like this...ugh!

Speaking of radishes, have you tried them sliced thinly on toast with a little olive oil, feta cheese, salt and pepper? Hello yummy!

  4. You look gorgeous, even if you were hanging on for dear life. I discovered I couldn't drink like a boy anymore, and it was so terribly disappointing. Also learned that a hangover and a 10am bikini wax are a truly miserable combination that weekend...

    1. Thanks darlin', though I must clarify that the above photo was snapped prior to the shinding. No way I was getting in front of the lens come Sunday...

  5. The simple bits from paced weekends always charm me so. This was lovely to stumble upon. Especially the farmer's market bits, which always are a freshener upper!

    1. Thanks, Jasmine! The farmer's market is easily one of my favorite places to photograph.

  6. I hear you on this one! Crikey, my hangovers are SO bad these days. At university I could do two, even three nights on the trot no problem. Now? One night on the sauce and I'm out of action for two days! Poor effort!

  7. It's a holiday here today, so my weekend is still going! It's been lovely. Hot and sunny and oh-so-relaxing. I spent all day Saturday at the beach :)

You are looking so sun-kissed! Love that hair of yours.

    1. Thanks so much, E! I haven't been doing much to it because of the heat, so a night out was the perfect excuse to actually try and look halfway decent.

  8. I had the same realization this weekend, and I realized, once again, that I am definitely no longer in my early twenties. We went out on Friday night with Andreas's best friend who was in town and felt like a train hit me the next day- Andreas was even worse off. Water is key, I always seem to forget that now.

And how stunning is that picture of you!!

  9. oh, Kayla! I have definitely learned that lesson the hard way recently too. How is there such a big difference between 21 and 25. Luckily, I'm grateful for the other things (like perspective!) that have come along with these years.
